West Highland White Terrier

Originating from Scottish decent as an avid hunter and game terrier, the Westi is a popular breed of choice for terrier lovers due to his charming personality. Small in size but big in personality, the Westi stands 9-12 inches tall at the shoulder and weights averages are 13-22 pounds. The breed is a true terrier, known to be feisty, willful and extremely affectionate.

The Westi is a tough little guy and in his case looks can be deceiving since his bright white coat and sweet expression lends many to believe that the Westi is a lap dog. Tough and rugged, the Westi can handle anything life throws his way, playful and sporting, happy and sweet, the breed is adaptable and ready to share his day with his family. A good watchdog and good with children, the Westi makes for a loyal and delightful companion.

The Westi is white in color and his coat is both very minimal shedding and hypo-allergenic, making the breed a good choice for allergy sufferers. His coat is typically coarse, but can also be soft, always white in color, medium in length with a shaggy appearance if left natural. Grooming is easily accomplished by frequent brushing sessions to prevent matting. Clipping or stripping of the coat is optional and many pet owners keep the coat shorter to make for ease of care.
